5 Years of TXT; a Look into the Music that Led to This Dream Week

On March 3, 2019, Tomorrow X Together made their debut with the title track, “Crown” off of their first EP, The Dream Chapter: Star. The second boy group under BigHit Entertainment, the debut was met with excitement, though the five members were largely viewed as BTS’s younger brothers. There were advantages and disadvantages to the title, but one thing was clear; TXT had some high expectations to live up to. Five years later, the group has just wrapped up anniversary celebrations with their loyal fanbase, Moa. The release of their tenth album, Minisode 3: Tomorrow, is just over the horizon. Tomorrow X Together has officially made a name for themselves, changing millions of lives for the better.
The group’s current discography comprises nine albums. The Dream Chapter: Star, featuring Blue Orangeade, Crown, Our Summer, Cat & Dog, and Nap of a Star, begins the group’s story, with themes of embracing differences and finding people who make you feel safe. The Dream Chapter: Magic, the first full album, was truly magical. This release had eight tracks: New Rules, 9 and Three Quarters (Run Away), Roller Coaster, Poppin’ Star, Can’t We Just Leave The Monster Alive?, Magic Island, 20cm, and Angel or Devil. The overarching theme was of creating a new reality together, with the continuation of the differences and contrast seen in the group’s first EP. The last installment in the Dream Chapter series was The Dream Chapter: Eternity in May 2020. Compared to the bright songs of the two prior albums, Eternity had a slightly darker feel, with Drama, Can't You See Me?, Fairy of Shampoo, Maze in the Mirror, Puma, and Eternally. This mini album looked at the heavier side of friendship; at misunderstandings and exclusion, as well as some of the harsh realities of life as an artist, and the contrast that was quickly becoming a hallmark of TXT’s music. As the pandemic screeched life to a halt, Minisode 1: Blue Hour leapt onto the scene with a bright sound that brought comfort to many. Ghosting, Blue Hour, We Lost The Summer, Wishlist, and Way Home told a story uniquely understood by those living in their time, with TXT’s signature energy and emotion.
With their second full-length album, The Chaos Chapter: Freeze, Tomorrow X Together stepped into a new era. The emo styling and pop-rock sound would define the group, at least for a time. Anti-Romantic, 0x1=Lovesong (I Know I Love You) feat. Seori, Magic, Ice Cream, What If I Had Been That Puma, No Rules, Dear Sputnik, and Frost each told their own story, some about love and finding someone who makes you feel complete, others expanding on the themes and stories found in past songs. The album’s repackage, The Chaos Chapter: Fight or Escape, included two new songs: Lo$er=Lo🩷er and Moa Diary. Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child brought TXT to the depths of their emo era; Opening Sequence, Good Boy Gone Bad, Trust Fund Baby, and Lonely Boy all tell of lost love and heartbreak, with the feeling of hope coming only from the last track, Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go. Having ventured into more mature topics, Tomorrow X Together returned to their fantasy roots with The Name Chapter: Temptation in January of 2023. Devil By The Window, Sugar Rush Ride, Happy Fools (feat. Coi Leray), and Tinnitus all explore the desire to escape reality and live in an illusion. Like with Thursday’s Child, the last track is what changes the tone of the album. Farewell, Neverland, is about leaving fantasy behind and facing the real world. The Name Chapter: Freefall, the group’s third full-length album and latest release, expands upon these same themes of growing up and facing reality without leaving yourself behind. Explaining it all like this is a mouthful, but the format of TXT’s discography is quite impressive; through every album, they’ve told a continuous story of youth and growth.
Tomorrow X Together has built so much in five years, and there’s still so much I haven’t mentioned. How to celebrate all of this? Dream Week takes place over the seven days leading up to March 4, filled with special photo and interview releases, among other surprises. This year, the theme was “Welcome to our house”, beginning with an intro video where Yeonjun introduced each of the members in English and showed Moas their “home”. This theme is fitting for five years, since TXT has become a home for so many fans over their career, as well as for each other. TXT sings for the younger generation, those of us who are growing up and struggling and trying to figure out life. Hearing someone who understands and brings light to these issues can make us feel assured and safe. This is another part of growing up; making or finding your own safe and loving home. Memorable events for Dream Week included a bouncy performance video for Blue Orangeade, the first song off of the group’s first album restyled to fit the modern TXT. The members held their fanlive, Present X Together, in Seoul and online on March second and third, making for two days of fun and special memories with participating Moas. Fans received another surprise on the third when Minisode 3: Tomorrow was announced to be released on April 1. The teaser featured morse code for the word “tomorrow”, a callback to Crown era, and the sparks seen in the teaser reminded many of Magic Island and other fantasy themes from the past. It looks like TXT will be reliving some of their previous work, but surely not without building upon the foundation of everything they’ve done so far. No matter what happens, the group’s success in five years cannot be denied. It looks like they’ll be around to provide a home for Moas far into the future, too.

Love Wins All by IU MV Starring V of BTS

Fans were shocked by the release of the music video for South Korean singer IU’s latest single, “Love Wins All”. The video features V of BTS and has piqued the interest of both artists’ respective fanbases, Uaena and Army. Though the title might suggest a soft, sweet music video, what was actually released is not what you'd expect. Yes, there are sweet moments, but there's so much more to it than just that. Many fans have said the video could easily be extended into a movie, and it does indeed have a cinematic quality. The video opens not with music, but with the sound of IU and V running and breathing heavily. The sound is sharp and foreboding against the otherwise quiet background. Right from the start, every tiny detail in “Love Wins All” serves to create a specific feeling. In this scene, it's urgency, tension, and fear. Both characters are in casual clothes which are tattered and dirty, their faces equally dirt-streaked and beat up. V’s right eye is clouded, implying

Fe304: BREAK by NMIXX

Don't we all love a good motivational song about running towards your dreams? I know I do, and NMIXX’s latest album, Fe304: BREAK, offers just that. This album is the first in a new chapter of NMIXX's discography, named after the chemical formula for black iron oxide (Fe3O4). Interestingly, this compound is often used to resist corrosion, which seems to be in contrast to the album’s title: BREAK. It becomes clear throughout the album, however, that NMIXX’s goal is to break down the walls holding them back without becoming corroded themselves.  The first song on the album as well as the title track, “Dash” sounds funky and sassy, as one would expect from NMIXX. The pop song is a bit repetitive throughout the chorus and might be an acquired taste for some, but it's certainly a fun and unique listening experience. This song is about running forward no matter what, ignoring “red lights” and anything else in the way. Difficulties are acknowledged within the lyrics, “Quivering

Screw Loose by Hannah Grae

I can’t be the only person who wrote dramatic poems recording my confusing feelings as a new teenager trying to figure out the world. I couldn’t have been the only one wondering “Am I insane?” when I hit fourteen. Sometimes I still wonder the same thing, and I’m sure some of you do, too. I don’t know if Welsh singer-songwriter Hannah Grae ever wrote the type of poems that I did when she was younger, but her newest release reminds me of those same emotions. A quick glance at the lyrics proves that “Screw Loose” is the perfect track to let out all of your inner angst to. Lines like “Nobody here seems to care, don't they see?/Am I the only one? Is it just me?” express loneliness and frustration. These feelings seem to drive Hannah to insanity through the chorus of the song, where she passionately sings, “Well, I think that I'm screw loose.” The content of the lyrics is both hurt and angry, however, a glimmer of hope appears in the second verse: “I'm hopin' I can turn all
