Our Lost Summer

With the outbreak of the coronavirus in 2020 and the resulting stay at home order, life screeched to a stop for many people around the globe. Amid this chaos, Tomorrow X Together released their album, Minisode 1: Blue Hour. “We Lost the Summer” is a song on the album about the pandemic and everything that was halted during quarantine. Two years later, in the summer of 2022, the group finally held their first world tour, which was delayed along with so many other events. “Our Lost Summer”, a new documentary on Disney+, records this meaningful time.
Viewers will enjoy the aesthetics of the documentary. Those who’ve been following TXT for a while might recognize editing styles from “One Dream”, the group’s reality show filmed during their first showcase in the U.S. in 2019, as well as from the Minisode 1 album. The parallels to “One Dream” serve as a throwback to TXT’s rookie days, comparing the showcase and the world tour as two different beginnings for the group and their music. Besides the editing style, the documentary also shows actual footage of the group when they first debuted, comparing the members to where they are now. The Minisode 1 references tie the summer of the tour back to the summer that they lost during the pandemic. These visual indicators instantly draw viewers into something that is distinctly Tomorrow X Together.
As promised by the name alone, the documentary is emotional and impactful. It runs down through the first leg of the world tour, Act: Lovesick: Seoul, Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, as well as Chicago music festival Lollapalooza. Scenes are organized to highlight each member and their different personalities and strengths. We see Beomgyu, who persevered with dedication even when he wasn’t feeling well; Soobin, the leader who was always there for the team; Taehyun, who was passionate about the group and always working to improve; Yeonjun, the reliable oldest member; and HueningKai, who might have even been a little too dedicated to putting on a good performance. Aside from the individual members, the group dynamic is also emphasized. At one point Beomgyu admits, “Usually we jokingly say we can’t stand each other, but when one of us gets sick, we gather up even though we all have our separate rooms. We become a family.”
“Our Lost Summer” is an impactful documentary about Tomorrow X Together and their growth as a group. From their debut and first showcase in the U.S., to the way they persevered through the pandemic, and through the challenges and victories of Act: Lovesick, they’ve never stopped improving and growing together as musicians and as a family.

IU Wins Hearts With Masterful Lyricism in The Winning (Review)

There's certain music that you can only fully appreciate when you understand the lyrics, and The Winning by South Korean soloist IU certainly falls into this category. Hear me out: as someone who doesn’t speak Korean, I did enjoy the mini album on my first listen. The music had a calming effect, IU’s angelic vocals paired with smooth instrumentals. It wasn't until I read the lyrical translations on Genius.com, however, that tears came to my eyes from the sheer beauty of the album. Through the lyrics and sounds in The Winning, IU weaves a story of life and success, and all that lies in between. The Winning begins with “Shopper”–a song that probably brings out the stereotypical teenage girl in all of us and the desire to “shop all day.” The chorus sounds distinctly airy and light, almost dreamy. While the soloist could simply be singing about a particularly large shopping spree, the lyrics also contain a metaphor. The lines “Time is short/ Make ‘em all yours,” from the ch...

5 Years of TXT; a Look into the Music that Led to This Dream Week

On March 3, 2019, Tomorrow X Together made their debut with the title track, “Crown” off of their first EP, The Dream Chapter: Star. The second boy group under BigHit Entertainment, the debut was met with excitement, though the five members were largely viewed as BTS’s younger brothers. There were advantages and disadvantages to the title, but one thing was clear; TXT had some high expectations to live up to. Five years later, the group has just wrapped up anniversary celebrations with their loyal fanbase, Moa. The release of their tenth album, Minisode 3: Tomorrow, is just over the horizon. Tomorrow X Together has officially made a name for themselves, changing millions of lives for the better. The group’s current discography comprises nine albums. The Dream Chapter: Star, featuring Blue Orangeade, Crown, Our Summer, Cat & Dog, and Nap of a Star, begins the group’s story, with themes of embracing differences and finding people who make you feel safe. The Dream Chapter: Magic...
