Do It Like That by Tomorrow X Together and the Jonas Brothers

Oh, my God, don't know how you do it like that.” With this iconic line, Korean pop group Tomorrow X Together and American trio the Jonas Brothers collaborated on an epic summer single. Looking at everything from the tune to the lyrics to the music video, dance, and fandom impact, here’s everything you need to know about the collaboration.
The Western influence is obvious in the all-English song, which has a tune that sounds classic and almost nostalgic to past summers of holding up peace fingers and taking selfies at the beach. At the same time, however, the song is fresh and exciting. This seems like a contradiction, but it’s true nonetheless. The sound overarching these details and nuances is smooth and interesting. Lyrically, ‘Do It Like That’ describes someone who is so amazing that they always blow the singers’ minds. It’s a pretty simple concept. The song’s creativity comes from specific imagery in the lyrics rather than the overall subject matter. For example, the lines, “You came with that jet pack. Now we flyin',”and, “You sendin' signals and them waves go far. Got people dancin' up on top of their cars,” catch listeners attention even though they aren’t related to any incredibly deep backstory. Though not particularly exciting or meaningful, the song is carefree and fun, perfect for summer.
Strong Western influence also shows up in the music videos, which has a white backdrop and no props besides instruments. The Jonas Brothers and Tomorrow X Together are shown singing and dancing around, generally having lots of fun. It all comes off a bit awkward, and the stylist would have done well to avoid putting anyone in white clothes over a white background. Still, the video is consistent with the song’s simple, carefree theme. It even features the members of Tomorrow X Together doing a simple Tik-Tok style dance for the chorus of the song, which differs greatly from their usual intricate choreographies.
Part of what makes the collaboration work so well is that both the K-pop performers and the Western trio share the same chaotic energy, meshing well together. It isn’t just the two bands getting along, either. Ever since the song was announced, fans of both groups have been making friends and asking for song recommendations, more than willing to support the other party. ‘Do It Like That’ is a song that’s bringing people together in more ways than one.
With a catchy beat, light lyrics, a fun music video, and two amazing groups of musicians coming together to make it happen, ‘Do It Like That’ is definitely a song to dance to this summer.

Our Lost Summer

With the outbreak of the coronavirus in 2020 and the resulting stay at home order, life screeched to a stop for many people around the globe. Amid this chaos, Tomorrow X Together released their album, Minisode 1: Blue Hour. “We Lost the Summer” is a song on the album about the pandemic and everything that was halted during quarantine. Two years later, in the summer of 2022, the group finally held their first world tour, which was delayed along with so many other events. “Our Lost Summer”, a new documentary on Disney+, records this meaningful time.      Viewers will enjoy the aesthetics of the documentary. Those who’ve been following TXT for a while might recognize editing styles from “One Dream”, the group’s reality show filmed during their first showcase in the U.S. in 2019, as well as from the Minisode 1 album. The parallels to “One Dream” serve as a throwback to TXT’s rookie days, comparing the showcase and the world tour as two different beginnings for the group and t...

IU Wins Hearts With Masterful Lyricism in The Winning (Review)

There's certain music that you can only fully appreciate when you understand the lyrics, and The Winning by South Korean soloist IU certainly falls into this category. Hear me out: as someone who doesn’t speak Korean, I did enjoy the mini album on my first listen. The music had a calming effect, IU’s angelic vocals paired with smooth instrumentals. It wasn't until I read the lyrical translations on Genius.com, however, that tears came to my eyes from the sheer beauty of the album. Through the lyrics and sounds in The Winning, IU weaves a story of life and success, and all that lies in between. The Winning begins with “Shopper”–a song that probably brings out the stereotypical teenage girl in all of us and the desire to “shop all day.” The chorus sounds distinctly airy and light, almost dreamy. While the soloist could simply be singing about a particularly large shopping spree, the lyrics also contain a metaphor. The lines “Time is short/ Make ‘em all yours,” from the ch...

5 Years of TXT; a Look into the Music that Led to This Dream Week

On March 3, 2019, Tomorrow X Together made their debut with the title track, “Crown” off of their first EP, The Dream Chapter: Star. The second boy group under BigHit Entertainment, the debut was met with excitement, though the five members were largely viewed as BTS’s younger brothers. There were advantages and disadvantages to the title, but one thing was clear; TXT had some high expectations to live up to. Five years later, the group has just wrapped up anniversary celebrations with their loyal fanbase, Moa. The release of their tenth album, Minisode 3: Tomorrow, is just over the horizon. Tomorrow X Together has officially made a name for themselves, changing millions of lives for the better. The group’s current discography comprises nine albums. The Dream Chapter: Star, featuring Blue Orangeade, Crown, Our Summer, Cat & Dog, and Nap of a Star, begins the group’s story, with themes of embracing differences and finding people who make you feel safe. The Dream Chapter: Magic...
